Play the Game – spoken poetry

Listen to this
Once upon a time
before they needed rules
Apples withered on the tree
Serpents sang upon their limbs
Naked being normal, bore no sin
Delight was in the play
Maidens danced with whimsy in the spring
The world was game -the game was love

But one day
Leaves turned
Bushes burned
Game to prey
Predators became the way of fallen angels
Humans played a game of compound sin
Where bucks don’t stop and blame begins
Birthing unreason- an island lost at sea
People dwindling, horses moving riderless
Sinking lower than pawns in chess
A godless game, the never won
That became the once upon
